PEAVEY LIBRARY SUMMER PROGRAMS 2026
WEEKLY: TUESDAYS from 11am-12pm: LITTLES LIBRARY HOUR!
Parents are invited to make Peavey’s childrens’ room their own and bring their wee ones for self-directed library play & socialization for littles & their adults alike. Books, puzzles, blocks, toys, legos, & coloring tools are available to use. Age: Preschool Plus
WEEKLY: SATURDAYS from 1-3: CRAFT CIRCLE!
Crafters are invited for this weekly gathering to bring their works in progress, or start something new. Any small-scale crafts, needlework, and varieties of artmaking are welcome. Ages: Teen to adult.
Summer Book Sale: On the Key Street side lawn & in the Library's front lobby. Book sale is regularly replenished & runs through September during most library open hours, as weather & staffing allows.
Friday, June 26th from 1-3pm: Pride Festival Rainbow Cloud & Spiral Wind Streamers, with Sara Myrick.
Create rainbow-inspired fluffy cloud & spiral, multicolored wind streamers, perfect for waving in a parade or decorating a porch. Using basic supplies, participants can make a festive piece representing the full spectrum of the Pride flag. All ages.
Friday, June 26 from 4-6pm: Music at Library Park presents Andy Radin and Adam Steinberg.
Andy Radin (fiddle) and Adam Steinberg (guitar) play tunes from the Celtic traditions of Ireland, Quebec, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia), and Scotland. With a deep feel for the tradition and an expressive, engaging approach, they move easily from driving reels and jigs to intimate, lyrical airs.
Monday, June 29 @ 10:00am: Summer Book Sale begins. On the Key Street side lawn.

Friday, July 3 @ 1:00pm: Strawberry Shortcake Sale, while supplies last.
Tuesday, July 7 from 1-3pm: TIMA - Generations of Tradition: Recent Acquisitions of Work by Women Artists.
Meet at the Peavey Library, where participants will gather before walking across the street to the Tides Institute & Museum of Art to explore Generations of Tradition: Recent Acquisitions of Work by Women Artists. After the visit, they will return to the library for a hands-on activity inspired by the exhibition.
Friday, July 10 from 1-3pm: Mixed Media Portrait Sculpture, with Sara Myrick.
Participants will explore their best ideas and inspiration for a mixed media sculpture.

Tuesday, July 14 from 1-3pm: Author Talk with Charles Cantalupo, who will be reading from his new book Clooscape the Poet, along with brief explanations to give a sense of the overall story. Followed by a Q &A.
Friday, July 17 from 1-3pm: Upcycled Book-Page Bookmarks, with Sara Myrick.
An eco-friendly and charming craft that turns damaged or discarded books into beautiful reading accessories. All Ages.
Friday, July 24 @ 1-3pm: Book Nook Luminary Jars, with Sara Myrick.
This cozy craft combines miniature bookmaking with soft ambient lighting. Place tiny folded paper books, silhouette cutouts, and fairy lights inside a glass jar to create a magical, glowing display. All ages.
Friday, July 24 from 4-6pm: Music at Library Park presents: The Maple Honeys.
Lucy Zwigard & Anna Carter play sweet and earthy folk tunes and soft pop classics. Led by guitar, percussion and female vocals, their strong harmony and steady rhythm provide a warm and heartfelt experience for all.
Tuesday, July 28 from 1-3: Crystal Suncatchers, with Sue Riddle.
Make sun-catchers with glass pendant crystals & colorful beads to hang in windows and cast rainbows. Limited to 15 participants/one per person. Pre-registration recommended. All ages.
Friday, July 31 from 1-3pm: MERMAID Socktopus, with Sara Myrick.
A quick, no-sew craft that turns a single sock into an adorable plush toy cephalopod in just a few simple steps. A Socktopus on a stick is a perfect accessory for the Mermaid Parade. All ages.
Tuesday, August 4 from 1-3pm: TIMA & PEAVEY: Eugene Richards: Remembrance Garden Photographs: Participants will gather at Peavey Library before walking across the street to the Tides Institute & Museum of Art to explore the exhibit, Eugene Richards: Remembrance Garden Photographs. After the visit, participants will return to the library for a hands-on activity inspired by the exhibition. Age: 4-7 Plus.
Friday, August 7 from 1-3pm: TP Roll Craft Critters, with Sara Myrick.
Transform empty cardboard tubes into adorable critters using a few basic supplies like paint, construction paper, glue, googly eyes, and pipe cleaners. You can easily create a whole zoo of animals, and woodland creatures for fun. All ages!
Friday, August 7 from 4-6pm: Music at Library Park presents, Pink Capos & Nadine Biss!
The Pink Capos (the duo of Kara McCrimmon & Penny Guisinger) dazzle with acoustic guitar, accordion, and sometimes banjo, and love singing songs by incredible singer-songwriters with tight harmonies, are joined this year by Nadine Biss on violin!
Wednesday, August 12 from 1-3pm: The Allagash- New England’s Wild River, with Tim Caverly.
Narrated by author and humorist Tim Caverly, this show includes music as well as scenic and historic photos from our ‘northern forest.’ Spectators will virtually canoe the world-famous river, discover forgotten logging history and learn about Native American archaeology. Hear first-hand about the lore, legends, and characters that Tim experienced during his 32-years while a Maine Park Ranger. All ages.
Thursday, August 13 from 1-3pm: 80th D-Day Anniversary Commemoration, with Robert Bell of Tide Mill Farms.
Robert will share photos and the story of his memorable trip to Normandy. Alton Bell, Robert’s Father, an officer with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, landed behind enemy lines the morning of June 6, 1944. Learn about the places and events that Alton experienced. All ages.
Friday, August 14 from 1-3pm: Book Upcycle-Nest with Birds, with Sara Myrick.
A charming and eco-friendly craft. Hollow out a discarded hardcover book to create a resting spot for handmade paper birds and a textured nest. All ages.
Wednesday, August 19 from 1-3pm: Astronomy, with Frank Dudish.
Join University of Maine Astronomer Frank Dudish for an afternoon of wonder and exploration. Participants in this lively interactive program will see what’s new in astronomy news and will have the opportunity to ask those astronomical questions that they've always wondered about, or can just sit back and be amazed and amused. All ages.
Friday, August 21 from 1-3pm: Artful Embroidery, with Sara Myrick.
Transform ordinary artist canvas into an embroidered masterpiece. Combining traditional needlework with painting and mixed media, the needle can be used like a paintbrush to layer thread, beads, paint, and appliqué into unique, dimensional wall art without needing complex framing Ages 14 plus.

Vermont-based duo of singer-songwriter Rebecca Hall and multi-instrumentalist and producer Ken Anderson, whose music inhabits a richly detailed world where psych folk, chamber folk, and baroque pop intertwine

To celebrate the 250th Declaration of Independence we are making American flags and Declaration of Independence wishing bottles. All Ages!

Friday, September 4 from 4-6pm: Music at Library Park, presents William Steven Hall from Carolina.
Indie-songwriter and producer raised in the foothills, cooked in the eastern sands on soul and rock and roll, before finding the folk of the mountains and the meditation of nature. Throughout 2026 he will be releasing songs off of his highly anticipated Adventure-Folk album ’Seasons’ which is set to be fully released by early 2027. His writings deal with sorting through the highs and lows of the world, our roots, and perspectives within the swaying genres of life.
In 2021, WSH co-founded falllift, an indie-folk production with Micah Cottingham. They’ve released 10 songs with several sync placements, and with national and international tours. From 2012-2023, he co-fronted folk-rock band Swim in the Wild, producing 30 songs, supporting acts like Colony House and New Politics, with performances at Sundance Film Festival and Floyd Fest.
Friday, September 11 from 1-3pm: Pirate Parrots, with Sara Myrick.

Materials will be provided for all workshops, but participants may bring in supplies to use or share.
Music at Library Park attendees are asked to provide their own blankets and chairs and are welcome to bring an alcohol-free picnic to enjoy.
